Communicating via Blog

I think a blog for this class has been an effective way to get value from this class because we are able to talk more freely and think ourselves more deeply. Also, we are able to learn and hear from each other about various of subjects.
Blogging is good way to share our thoughts and ideas with people about some of what we did in class especially, good for people who dont normally speak up in class.
However, I dont think that it is easy to manage and control our grade because sometimes it feels like an assignment and some topics are not easy. 
Blogging should remain a part of this class while I am not sure continuing to post my ideas after this calss has ended.  

DO YOU KNOW MACGANGBANG?

My project for extra credit was to go to McDonald has them make a special order. I was just speechless because I have never seen people who have requested a special order in the McDonald’s. I could be imagined that a staff may star at me very intensely and my face may turn red. I might even try to run away as soon as possible even though I couldn’t attain my purpose. But I decided as the old saying goes, “Many hands make light work” that I am going to the McDonald with jue-hee jung who is a classmate of mine.

We tried to set up a plan on how McDonald and their management would face an unsuspected situation. The first thing we did was to try to find a McDonald is which was not crowed because they might not listen to our special order. We decided to go the MacDonald’s at 26^th street 6^th Ave. Unlike our expectation, there was a long line of customers. However, we took courage and asked one of the staff members, “Do you have a Macganbang?” As might be expected, she didn’t know what the Macgangbang is. So, we ordered $1 Double Cheeseburger with an entire $1 McChicken sandwich stuffed into the middle of the Double Cheeseburger. We respectfully asked her to do that and telling her that “It is really important for us that you fill this order.” She hesitated for awhile before talking to the manager. The staff member explained our order to the manager and she tried to help us. However, the manager wasn’t happy with our order and got a bit upset. We begged the manager for doing that even though the manger doesn’t like. The staff member who received our order persuaded their manager to try. Finally, the manager accepted our special and accepted the special work and discussed with worker how to make it. The staff member was confused with our order to begin with but later she figured out our order and explained to rest of staffs in detail. Four people were involved in this special order and they spent almost 10 minutes to complete this special order. Fortunately, there was a short line of customers so that the other staff members were able to take care of the other customers very quickly.

The best thankful to them was that they tried to help us even though we made an unreasonable demand and cared our special order expertly. Actually, they even asked us if our order was correct several times. When we received our order, all was correct. We expressed our gratitude for all of the kindness they showed us.

In brief, I wish to evaluate the management process for our special order in 3 ways.

Overall, communications was effective among employees. In particular, communications was more effective between management and employees because they have a horizontal relationship like a friend. However, communications were less effective between employees and customer. We didn’t seem to have a big communication problem with employees but they took awhile to grasp our order because of our English conversation. What I would recommend for effective communication with customers for better customer’s service is to put yourself in the shoes of the customer and try to make sense of customer’s needs. Secondly, there was one thing that was lacking; they were not set up effectively to handle “extra special” orders because they were confused on how to make it and they only focused on our order. If there is a long line of customers, it would be big problem because they should focus the other customer order as well. So, if I was the manager, I would treat a special order like ours in person to have an effective management process for store.

Lastly, the staff who received our order displayed true leadership traits during our visit because she was patient and understanding. She understands our order positively and then explained the order in detail to other staff members. Thanks to her, our order was completed and satisfactory. I think leadership and cooperation which were shown here are necessary for effective management process.

The ABCsof DISC...

The test was one of the most interesting activity becasue it was like a psychologocal test. Actually, when i was in korea i had a test like the DISC leadership diagnostic test. The test was more accurate than the test before i had. I think the test gauge my management orientation accurately. The result of the tset came out for me as an SC and CS. The total scores of SC and CS were almost same. I could be classified as either "SC" or "CS". The test got it right because i received same result when i had a test like this. The result reflects my personality very well as well. I was satisfied with the results of the test but sometimes i want to have personalities like as enthusiasm, aggressive and excite. If i could be another type, i wnat an "ID" type.
I think it is helpful to determine people's management "type" to better understand but the test only gauge general leadership style. It is difficult to judge perfect leadership style becasue the leadership consists of various elements as well as personality. So, sometimes, a test like this help us in business interactions but we should not  rely on completely a test like this. It is more effective to accept it as a guidance for business interaction. 

The power of vision

Everybody have a dream and try to make their dreaem come true...However, it is tough to make it come true...If we have a powerful vision with life, a visoin allows you to make your dream come true.
When i was little girl, I always thought what i want to do...What i can do the best...It was hard to obtain right answer. Finally, I decided on what i do and i studied in fashion design in Korea. While i study in fashio design, I hvae do enjoyed and i wnated to study more abroad. Since i came in NY, I have tried to go to fashion school but, one day, my vision was changed...That's why i am in the Baruch^^...
Let's share my future after Baruch...
Firstly, waht i want to do is that graduate Baruch and go to the MBA. As you know, i am international student. It is hard to study abroad because English is second laguage and I should afford to very expensive tuition. Studying in the NY is my challenge and make my vison a reality.
Secondly, i want to be merchandiser who treats underwear because i used to work underwear designer in Korea. I want to build my carrer more in the NY which is city of fashion.
Lastly, i want to go world travel with my family. I think traveling makes me maturity and gives new soul. Also, traveling makes our family closer and i want to have a memory which i can not forget forever.

#3) Decision making

Professor gave a big chance improving score to us. It was good deal because we could improve scores by ourself except any professor opinion. I beleived that the decision making process is smooth and easy because we have a common objective improving score. However, there were chaos and finding common cause seemed far away.
I realized that decision making about common objective is difficult because we pursue private profit in advance than public ones.
I used the Avoidance method because there were too many spekers and yelling. Also, there were the limit to agree on many opinions. The decision making was going nowhere and I thought we were fail to acquire common opinions everybody agree. 
I think that the collaboration method would work well in the situation. Making decision is easier in a small groups because we could hear variable opinios from different people. Also, many people could participate in making decisoin process and protect minority opinion from major opinions.
Finally,I think professor want us to understand how hard to make decisoin. however, I feel we were lack of something learning  how to make good decision more effective.

Blog Topic#2: An Eggs-cellent Way to plan

We had a big challenge with 25 minutes to plan and 10 minutes to bulid a egg protector.

Step 1: Our team's goal and objective was to build a device that will protect egg from breaking.
Step 2: We tried to suggest unique idea to achieve our goal and our team decided how to build  a device. We estamated amount of resources how many straws should be cut and how they should be taped holding an egg. After deciding everything, we draw out the egg-protector.
Step 3: We had several good idea. However, we could not come up with perfect idea.
Finally, we choose the pramid style device.  A tactic of our team that we changed our shape of egg protector because we realized a triangle structure is better than a square to save resources.
Step 4: We should have supposed various scenario for what happened to our device. Also, we need to develop an exhaustive plan.
Step 5: Our egg protector was not perfect device but everybody contributed to the group for our goal. Our result is that the device hit the side of the trash can. So we couldnt get 10 points but we really enjoyed our challenge and did good job.
